Temporary Exhibition
From 12 december 2024 to 9 march 2025
The recipient of the prestigious Saidye-Bronfman Award, bestowed by the Governor General in Ottawa on November 14th 2024, Louise Lemieux Bérubé continues her artistic exploration with the exhibition Around the World with 80 Textile Artists, presented at the MUMAQ from December 12th 2024 to March 9th 2025.
This exhibition, curated by Marie-France Bégis, invites visitors to explore a project that is at once both deeply personal and wholly universal, born from relationships woven over a forty-year career.
A creative approach at the crossroads of connection and inspiration
In 2022, on the eve of her 80th year, Louise Lemieux Bérubé launched an ambitious project, the result of forty years of collaboration with textile artists from around the world. From 1997 to 2016, Louise has shared her expertise in Jacquard weaving with over 400 participants at the Centre des textiles contemporains de Montréal (CTCM), as well as in universities and international conferences. These enriching encounters formed the basis for her new project, Around the World with 80 Textile Artists, a vibrant hommage to the diversity and unity of artistic practice.
A hymn to life and woven creation
In the Museum transept, you’ll discover a section devoted to our province in A Tour of Québec with 28 Textile Artists. This project, at once both tangible and virtual, marries traditional and contemporary techniques, most notably the knotting of paper threads, and reflects a quest for artistic continuity and intergenerational dialogue.
This project was supported financially by the Conseil des arts et des lettres du Québec.
